La ballata di Johnny e Gill by Fausto Paravidino
La ballata di Johnny e Gill
by Fausto Paravidino
What would you do if one day God promised you descendents, prosperity and fortune?
Like Abraham, Johnny is a very poor man living with his wife Gill. Suddenly, a God who seems to be talking to him only, offers him a pact: a promis of progeny and good fortune, if he is willing to emigrate. Johhny takes his wife by the arm, and after various pilgrimages through Africa and the Mediterranean Sea, he illegaly reaches New York, where he will try his luck…
Fascinated by the Bible, Fausto Paravidino continues his exploration of the sacred book, focusing on the myth of the Tower of Bable, and on the charachter of the first patriarch, Abraham.
Developed from workshops held in different cities (New York, Geneva, Toulon), La ballata di Johnny e Gill tries to overcome the barriers of language encouraging the staging of any non-verbal form of communication. Dance, masks, pantomime and images weave together, in order to express and recount. The director appropriates the myth and, enjoying every possible analogy, makes it talk to us, today.
